Babak Nouri promoted to VP, Corporate Development at AMERICAN SYSTEMS

Industry veteran will lead Business Development, M&A activities

Nouri, formerly Director of Account Management for the company, fills the position vacated by John Steckel, who was named President and CEO of AMERICAN SYSTEMS in September 2023.

Peter Smith replaces Bill Hoover as Chairman of the Board of AMERICAN SYSTEMS

September 6, 2023 – Chantilly, Va. – AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a leading provider of cutting-edge engineering and IT solutions, today announced that former President and CEO Peter Smith has been elected Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors. Smith, who resigned from his position as the company’s President and CEO earlier this month, now fills the Chairman position vacated by Bill Hoover. Hoover had served as Chairman of the Board since 2015.

July 16, 2018 — Chantilly, Va.AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a leading provider of federal IT and engineering solutions, today announced the appointment of John Steckel as Vice President of Business Development. In this role, Steckel will oversee business development (BD) efforts including identifying new customers, conducting effective capture strategies and developing winning proposals.

“John will be an integral part of our leadership team, particularly in shaping strategies across our business areas and integrating efforts across delivery and business development,” said Peter Smith, President and CEO, AMERICAN SYSTEMS. “We are pleased to have someone with John’s experience and leadership in this capacity, as he is a customer-facing, hands-on, BD executive with a proven track record of performance.”

Steckel possesses more than 16 years of direct BD leadership experience in the federal sector in addition to a decade in marketing and P&L roles. Prior to joining AMERICAN SYSTEMS, Steckel was Senior Vice President at Vencore (now part of Perspecta), where he was responsible for leading business development, capture, and proposal development teams. Prior to his tenure at Vencore, he held BD positions at Raytheon and BAE Systems after 10 years in B-to-B and B-to-C marketing and operational roles at several companies including FedEx and PepsiCo . Steckel served 21 years in the United States Navy and United Stated Naval Reserves as a P-3C Orion Naval Flight Officer.

He earned a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy and an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
